Perfect footwear for Costa Rica’s rainy season.

(QCOSTARICA) If you are moving about in the Central Valley today and tomorrow don’t leave behind the umbrella and galoshes, as the afternoon rains will be intense due to a low pressure system located in the Pacific Ocean, says the national weather service.

According to the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), mornings will be typically sunny, but rains will be intense in the afternoons around the Pacific Rim and Central Valley.

In Guanacaste, meanwhile, the drought continues. The Central Government says it has invested more than ¢5 billion colones, in 11 cantons of Guanacaste, to mitigate the effects of drought.

The IMN says that the El Niño phenomenon will affect the country for the remainder of the year.

El Niño is defined by prolonged warming in the Pacific Ocean sea surface temperatures when compared with the average value.
